Multihull Weekend 2011
For various reasons Multihulls are thin on the water this year, however Chica the Telstar 8M and Triple Fantasy (TF), Julian and Becie Woods new (to them) Kelsall 35 were up for the annual Hoo Ness Multihull Weekend races.
Once again the event coincided with the annual Medway Barge match so the Medway was very much alive.
We started at Stangate with very little wind, we shortened course to miss out S Kent as there would be problems making it against a now flooding tide.
TF shot away and then ran into a hole in the wind which allowed Chica to catch up and pass. Gradually the wind picked up to a SW 5/6 and TF passed Chica at Kingsnorth Power Station and continued on to finish first, albeit not sufficiently ahead to overcome the handicap difference.
We retired to the HNYC clubhouse for the evening meal and a few drinks, then back in the morning for a Full English. Christine had a candle on a cake to celebrate Becies birthday.
Sundays race was also part of the HNYC Spring series so we were joined by more racers.
This was a pursuit race and the wind was S 5/6 so it was a fast race, the lead boat was down to the S Kent turning mark with only half the race completed. TF gave Chica a 33 minute start and all but made up the time difference by the end. Chica just held her off and won by 100 metres
